Dr. Reed earned her Doctorate of Optometry in 2013 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, after completing externship training in ocular disease, contact lens fittings, and vision therapy. Originally from Papillion, Nebraska, and having done her undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Dr. Reed has enjoyed being back in "The Good Life."
Dr. Reed and her husband, Josh, are involved in various community activities and are active members of their church. They also enjoy spending time with their two sons, Brayden and Landon, and cheering for the Huskers. As a family, they love visiting local restaurants and taking part in the vibrant Millard and greater Omaha communities. When she has time, she also likes to hit the links and sneak in a round of golf.
Dr. Reed entered the eye health field at a young age, during her college years she was an Optician, and loved helping people select eyeglasses and lenses that fit their needs, or adjusting glasses frames so that they fit perfectly. So if she's not busy with exams, sometimes she sneaks up to the optical and can be found helping people select glasses frames even today! Ultimately, one of her greatest passions is making sure that people can see clearly and that they look good and feel confident in their eyewear, and it was for this reason that ModernEyes was born!
Dr. Reed has been an active member of the Nebraska Optometric Association throughout her entire optometric career, becoming increasingly involved in the Young OD and Children's Vision committees. She is also serves as the Chair of the board for the Nebraska Foundation for Children's Vision, and is helping lead and organize potential ways to serve children's vision needs throughout the state. In addition to working with the NOA and NFCV, Dr. Reed spends a significant amount of time volunteering with OneSight, a non-profit dedicated to serving people in need locally, nationally, and globally with comprehensive eye exams and glasses. She has been a volunteer member on clinics in Xi'an, China and Spokane, Washington and has served as the lead optometrist on three clinics here in Omaha as well as in Makassar, Indonesia. Within ModernEyes, Dr. Reed participates in Essilor Vision Foundation, Healthy Eyes Healthy Children, and Saving Sight Through Lenses programs where she donates exams and works with Essilor to provide complete pairs of glasses to people in need.
The Hayes Center for Practice Excellence at Southern College of Optometry holds an annual competition for practices owned by alumni. In 2020, Dr. Reed was selected for this award in the "New Practice" category, based on solid financial decision-making and patient growth rate compared to all other entrants. The Hayes Center exists to help SCO alumni to establish and grow private practices, so receiving this award is truly an honor. A special thanks to all our patient "family" that made this possible by not only selecting us for your eye care needs, but for telling your friends and family about us!
For the year of 2021, Dr. Reed was honored with the Nebraska Optometric Association Optometrist of the Year Award. Each year the NOA presents an Optometrist of the Year Award to a member who has contributed his or her time and talent in the most outstanding manner for the betterment of the visual health and welfare of the public and to the profession of optometry during the past year. This award was in recognition of all of Dr. Reed's efforts at organizing several cheritable NFCV childrens vision clinics with several rural school districts, and efforts at educating the community regarding eye care services available for those in need.
